How our barista, Bella, honored her roots with a "job" but ended up finding a "family".
“I started working at the café almost three years ago when I was 16. It was my first job, and I was thrilled that the owner took a chance on me. Back then, all I knew was that I wanted to honor my grandparents and their Italian heritage in some way. I had no idea that I would still be here years later.
I may have started this job because of my love for coffee and my connection to my roots, but over time, I realized it was more than just a job to me. The café became a second home, and my coworkers became family. Working here has allowed me to step back and truly appreciate the beauty of human connection.
There is something special about the customer interactions I’ve experienced. Every day, I learn something new from the strangers, coworkers, and regulars who walk through our doors. My favorite part of the job are the conversations I have with people and the simple joy of watching humans just being human.”

Caffè di Pasqua
Caffè di Pasqua has been a part of Italian Easter traditions for generations. This delicious coffee drink is typically served during Easter breakfast or brunch, and it's a great way to start the day with a little bit of sweetness and warmth.
While there is no one "official" recipe for caffè di Pasqua, the drink typically includes espresso, cocoa powder, sugar, cinnamon, and whipped cream.
In Italy, Easter is a time for family and friends to come together and celebrate, and caffè di Pasqua is a perfect accompaniment to the festivities. It's often served alongside sweet breads, pastries, and other Easter treats, and it's a great way to bring a little bit of extra cheer to the holiday.
When in Rome do as the Romans do. During our last visit to Rome, my cousins (who live in Rome) were eager to share a unique and treasured experience. As we walked through the streets, their excitement grew and they turned around and smiled as they joined the end of the line at the oldest roasting company in Rome.
Sant’ Eustachio Il Caffè is an old wood-fired coffee roastery that dates back to an establishment that existed as early as 1800 when it was known simply as “Caffè e Latte” in St. Eustace Square. It's famous for for its home-roasted beans, blended with water from an ancient aqueduct. You can find this caffe near Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. And if you're in Rome you shouldn't miss it.
We did not spend much time there other than to get a quick espresso. I watched with interest as the barista prepared the espresso. He was behind the large espresso machine making some noise. The espresso is served whipped and is consumed with a spoon. Enough said.
We brought this delightful little treat back to In Dietro Caffe. Our version is called Caffe del Santo (coffee of the Saint) due to the heavenly nature. The taste is similar to a coffee mousse and it is a wonderful way to consume an afternoon espresso. If you prefer something like a cold Americano, ask for a Caffe Santa Maria (created by Hailey). You are sure to find this just as heavenly. Buona Pasqua.
